SODOM & GOMORRAH: Claiming that Russia seeks to “erode” the so-called peaceful order of Europe, US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter promises to defend allies.
Europe, which has seen bombings and attacks in several major cities over the last few years, is experiencing what the United States terms a peaceful order that’s only possible because of the lack of Soviet aggression. And the US is determined to protect that peaceful order against threats real or imagined from the Russian Federation. Citing increased submarine patrols in the Atlantic and Russia’s audacious jet aircraft doing barrel rolls, the US defense department promises a swift military response if the US or any other NATO allies are attacked.
Carter travelled to Germany where the United States has stationed more than 60,000 soldiers to protest the presence of Russian military in places other than Russia.
Additionally, the defense secretary, who currently oversees America’s 4,717 nuclear warheads, accused the Russian government of “sabre-rattling” with their approximately 2,000 warheads. Carter promised that this blatant aggression from the Russian regime would be met with additional investment into NATO including more technology to locate the presence of Russian submarines as they patrol international waters.
Ash Carter did reassure Moscow that the United States does not seek to make an enemy out of Russia. The door remains ever open for the Russian government to participate in peaceful relations with the West, but that NATO, an alliance formed solely to oppose Russia, would launch an all out offensive if provoked.
Russian officials disagree and maintain that persistent placement of troops along its border violates a 1997 treaty with NATO and claim that their actions are largely defensive.
